The
project is divided into 7 work packages which make up 2
'clusters'.

The
first work package (WP1) involves coordination, which will be
handled by a steering committee composed of four participants.
Oprins
Plant has taken the initiative to form this network and is the main
coordinator. The
company has expertise in bamboo R&D and marketing.
The
industrial coordinator is Mr. Joris Devos of Cobelgal,
who was the main coordinator for the Bamboo
for Europe project. He
has a long experience in technology transfer from Europe to Asia,
Africa and South-America. His role will be to orient the project
towards industrial applications.
The
scientific coordinator will be Prof. Dr. Elvira Fernandez (University
of the Philippines Los Baños).
She has extensive experience in supervising fundamental
and applied research and will be responsible for the overall
coordination of scientific work.
The
coordinator for technology transfer will be INBAR,
an international organization engaged in South-South
technology transfer.
In
Cluster 1 “Bamboo as a plant” focus is placed on Propagation
and Genetic improvement of bamboo (WP2) and
Silviculture and Harvesting
(WP3).
Cluster
2, “Bamboo biomass
for industrial transformation,”
focuses on Panels and boards (WP5) and Bioenergy
(WP6).
Two
other work packages are overlapping Clusters 1 and 2, namely Quality
of bamboo biomass (WP4) and Technology Transfer (WP7).
In Technology Transfer focus is placed both on
industrial uses and local industries in developing countries.
