Bundesforschungsanstalt
für Forst- und Holzwirtschaft (BFH) - Federal
Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products in Hamburg is an
independent scientific institution in the portfolio of the German Federal
Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture.
BFH has
an international reputation in all aspects of wood technology. The Institute of
Wood Biology and Wood Protection carries out fundamental and applied research
in the fields of tree growth and wood formation, wood structure and
structure/property relationships, nature and efficient control of organisms
involved in wood biodeterioration, and long-term protection of timber in
service as well as recycling of timber. The institute cooperates with other European
wood research institutes within the Eurowood Network.
BFH is represented in the Bamboo Thematic Network project by Dr. Rolf-Dieter Peek and Dr. Hans Leithoff. Both scientists have done pioneering work on the heat treatment of bamboo in the INCO project 'Sustainable Management and quality improvement of bamboo and products'.
